Later in my time Consolidated Traders would only take deer if they had their ears on. Our buyer always had some spare sets of ears we could put on with a safety pin if for some reason the carcass was missing them. I remember one great big stag was an escapee and he had a tag and a tag slit (the old original Allflex tags made a slit, not a hole) in his ear so the buyer whipped his ears off for me and pinned a new clean set on. Rubbed on a bit of mud and the job was done

I had a dog which would chew the ear of such deer. Quite amazing that with a whole stag carcass available for him to eat, he would just chew the ear (haha).

What load are you using? Brian picked up 100 of those sako loaded for me I think they are varmit bullets but the brass should be good for reloading.

I’m just using standard sako factory ammo. 50 gn softpoint. Kills well.

That same shop in Marton set me off on the 222 road, 100 rounds of Winchester Western and a Savage bolt action with side mounted scope.
Rifle long ago traded but still reload those cases. 222 my go to gun.

Had a few planned hunts put on ice while under the latest Covid restrictions limiting where we were could day hunt, so the Sako Vixen .222 has been earning it's keep on plenty of goats and 3 Fallow during the lockdown.
