Have you tried 2206H with the 75gns?
Who is doing the chamber?
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
384mtrs for the 223 on the hind, good shooting.
No not tried 2206H but I have plenty of 2208 too run both 308 and 223 for a year or two. A local smith, seen a couple of his competition builds and a 7PRC pimped out hunting rig, they all shoot well.
Yes Murph
Maybe someone should start a seperate thread on deer with 80 grainers. Cant get my head around that big a pill on top of the 223 case.
Initial trials with the 80 eldm in my Tikka with a Waters mag to allow long oal are showing good accuracy . Now that I know my barrel will shoot them I'll narrow the loads down to find a winner .
I'd be interested in a 80gr Thread where loads/results/testing etc are discussed in detail .
FALL IN LOVE WITH THE NUMBERS , NOT THE IDEA
I'd be keen on a new thread for 80grainers once I get my rifle back from the G Smith.
80gr ballistics look pretty dam good compared to 55gr at distance. I used to shoot a lot of bunny's and deer close range under 100m and the 55grainers were fine. Now days with rangefinders, dialup scopes, ballistic apps and fast twist barrels so makes sense to take the advantages of heavy grain weight projectiles for deer, and longer range goat culling for me anyway.
@tikka who is opening the throat on your 223?
I was never very impressed when I had a 223. With 60 grn factory stuff it lacked penetration. The last deer I shot with it was a pretty ordinary sized 2yr velvet stag. Shot just forward of the base of the neck, bullet hit the vertibrae but didnt have the momentum to break it. So the deer was laying paralysed but fully alive blinking when I got to it.
Fast forward, hunting mate has bought a 223 for fallow and reds paddock shooting. Is there a copper bullet that I could reload for him that kills really well ?
I would like to go copper / lead free
