    You nailed it, my friend!

Few weekend warriors could hit a flock of circus tents at 700-1,000 yards. We hear about the miraculous long shot kills on elk here in the States all the time. None of these yokels ever admit to the wounded ones that ran off until they finally dropped one.

600m with factory ammo with practice is doable, 800m handloads with a bit of skill and good gear e.g. good dail up scope, Ballistic app, rangefinder, windmeter if shooting in any. Your gona need plenty deep pockets to run a 300wsm with the trigger time needed to shoot that far on targets even before nocking a deer over.
What setup are you using at the moment?

Great question mate.....I use a range finder for golfing, hunting, and a plethora of other things.......distance in the Bush can be subjective.....if you can glass an animal ,then you can range find it....makes it simple....I have the Vortex optics fury HD 10x42...a little spendy yeah I know....but the number of times I’ve made an estimate of distance only to find I was no where close.......

I suppose it partly depends on the air rifle... If it's one of those 50 cal beasts, I'd believe it... but in my experience, you shoot a pouk at greater than about 50 yards and it will pretty much look at you and tell you to piss off. Even with my 22LR with a 12X scope, taking a small animal out at 150 yards is no easy feat.

You need to get one of them ranger range finders, you get a lot more for your money, generally about four meters.
Not sure if my sarcasm in my posts is understood.

Aaah, Gibo mate, bit of online sport eh.

I use a Vortex 1500 in furious anti-goat actions as the mob scatters across the hill. My trusty spotter will call "Grey one running left 617! Black and white running down 430! Brown one stationary 478! White billy heading left 595!"

Click click click and one after the other, they all end up rolling down the hill.

It's a bloody neat bit of kit that little rangefinder, love it. It ranges across our valley here at home to a validated 1240m without a second thought. Haven't ever bothered pointing it anything further than that.
