You get about a bit! Been there a few times hunting, never seen a goat. Went there with my family for an unarmed day tramp and saw a small mob.

@MB Haha yeah, I'm pretty fresh so I have fresh motivation. Im also a teacher so have a lot of holiday time for missions. I always get addicted to new learning haha.

You think I'd have better luck in Omahuta or puketi forest?

Okay, I might be able to make that work. Any advice for the Tangihuas?

Get high (geographically, not pharmacologically). Use the track to cover larger distances, bush to hunt. If you hear any bleating or commotion, slowly and quietly make your way to the source of the noise. Bush is the biggest enemy in that place. Secateurs for cutting supple jack will make life easier.

Last goat I saw in Otakia was during first lock down April 20 and I only had my dog, no rifle.
As others said, used to be good numbers but not many now.
My experience is that if you head up the track from the road, just pass the sets of stairs you come to a head basin on the west, every time I have encountered them it has been in this area and they tend to head west to get away. Around the 140 -160 mtr counter lines.
So I would suggest a walk west from this point.

Or just head over to the Tangihua's.
