Hope you have success be interesting how you like the later seasons. I'm personally not all that interested in it. I've hunted late season Montana and it's not really my style of hunt but some seem to have decent success.

I also normally hunt the earlier seasons but with the last couple of WY hunts is been bloody hot in Sept - Oct so for a change thought I’d go later. I’ve done a couple of late season hunts in WY and MT and really enjoyed those.

Nice, that’s close to unit I’ve been thinking of throwing my name in hat for moose, we’re kinda low pt unit guys got in game to. Late to try catch up but it’s been pretty good so far just more people but nothing unmanageable

Where to go to bowhunt elk? My uncle used to go to Colorado in the 80’s to do it but he passed away but took away his secret spot with him. I know it was not too far from grand junction and he was one or two days on pack horses in the wild near a wooden log cabin. Above the outside entrance , were a whole bunch of arrows stuck in the wood, the tradition was that each bow Hunter who would have harvested an elk would then shoot an arrow in the beam above the door entrance.

I’d recommend Colorado or Montana. Both have plenty of elk and fairly easy to get a tag, but you’ll have to apply in the ballot. If want to hunt Sept 2025 you can apply now in both states. You can apply in other states but the cost adds up and the chances are low e.g. Idaho, New Mexico, Wyoming or Arizona.

Even though there’s no OTC elk in COlorado this yr should be plenty units you can draw tag with 2nd choice or possible pick up after draw

I see it now my cousin has pretty good luck in 3rd rifle thry been hunting for yrs mostly smaller bulls(240-300) they’ve killed some nice muleys but it’s 2/3 pt unit for NR I’ve got 5/6 pts for elk I may burn em in next couple yrs my boy will be old enough to go probably get him muzzloader tag til he gets more dialed in with bow, maybe I’ll get something figured out going try go unit with fewer tags maybe less traffic

HOOKEM Do you know about the youth opportunities in CO and MT? Your son gets preference in the CO secondary draw and there are a lot of good tags available. In MT he can get a NR combo OTC if you draw one first. And of course his points are cheap in a lot of states including AZ, WY and CO.
