Ecologists eliminated or allowed to go extinct cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, possums and rabbits in the 1990s, but feral cats, pigs and mice remain on Auckland Island. The last rabbits on Enderby Island were removed in 1993 through the application of poison, also eradicating mice there

Auckland Islands have always fascinated me although I've never been there.
The possum skin buyer had some rabbit skins from there they were a blue black colour.

I too have allways wondered about those islands is there anything to hunt there apart from rabbits or possums

There's no possums there and it's all controlled by doc. Hard to get there and hard to get a permit to go ashore

And from the link off that on the rare breeds page

' In January 1999 a Rare Breeds Society expedition rescued and removed seventeen pigs – including several pregnant sows – from Auckland Island prior to the eradication of the remaining animals by the Department of Conservation'

MrsP38 turned down my request for her to be my serving wench.

In fact she was able to clearly communicate her disapproval of my request with just two little words.

I won't push my luck and ask again anytime soon.
