    Ballot questions

I have some questions how the general balloting works. I’ve never done a application. Recently got back into hunting since a young fulla & want to start trying my luck with some of the South Island ballots. I've found few older threads on here but can’t really find answers to the below.

    1. Are there any ballots you can apply for as a solo hunter, or provide names who might go closer to the ballot period? I’ve seen videos or heard of others doing it alone. (or maybe that was just for the cameras!)

    2. Do all party members have to be hunters/firearms licence holders, or can I include family, i.e teenage sons details even if they are not licence holders yet?

    3. What is the best place/website that has all the info on ballots and when they become available, how best to apply etc etc?

Just after the general ‘how to’ you guys have to offer.

    Cheers

You can go it alone most but not all ballots are on the DOC website.

Most allow you to add other names to your ballot it will be in the instructions.

Non hunters can go but I believe that they also need to be named but not 100% sure on that one.

There is usually a date when applications go live and in the case of molesworth roar they were all gone in 4 minutes last time. Molesworth has soom blocks available year round too.

Any member of the public is allowed to access public conservation land at any time if they are not hunting. Should be no need to to list any party members that are along for the walk and wont be using a rifle. The Fiordland Wap ballot has just opened.

I seem to remember NZDA have recently put out something on the different ballots (Greenstone, Haast, etc) and how they all work.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

The Molesworth roar block system is a joke, those that type the fastest get a block, unfair and open to abuse

Yep we all know that, I missed out last year due to have electrical work done on the house.

I have heard that the systems are being changed so we will see.
