Bambi beware, this old girl is coming for you!

Just Acquired a "new" rifle, she is a little over 50yrs old and so is the scope (and sling!)

Sako L61r .270 with a B.Nickel 4x81 scope. Wood and blued (obviously) with a really nice heft to it, about 4kg with scope (when did we all suddenly become so weak we couldn't carry a solid rifle?) Original Bofors barrel, throat very good, virtually no wear in the bore and amazingly almost nil corrosion.

Gave it a clean bore sighted it and went down the range with loads from my other .270 that measured a 60thou jump in this rifle, held my breath and asked it the question.........

Rather happy with the result, the scope is shit for shooting paper, utterly horrible reticule, couldn't tell exactly where on the red bit it was holding, but 50 years ago it was a high tec bit of kit!, decent field of view and would be great at acquiring and holding moving four legged targets, undecided weather I should put optilocks and a good scope on it so it can punch paper really well, or keep it period, sometimes old girls are the best!

    Anybody got some optis?

@257weatherby Bloody nice guns and they cost a premium when new. Bought a 308 Forester of that era brand new. Shooting mates thought I was stark raving mad. Interesting comment re your scope - I still have in a drawer somewhere the same Nickel Marburg 4x81(36 obj). It sat on my very first 22-250 long long time ago. With handloads that rifle consistently shot .5MOA for five shots. It was a Tika LSA-55, quality product just like the SAKOs of that era. The scope had the traditional fat post and I used to have eye sight good enough (no longer the case) that I could shoot my groups by using the right hand tip of the post for the aiming point. 4 power only was good enough for long shots. Now we all anguish about whether we have enough magnification with 3-9 just seen to be adequate. Enjoy your treasure.
