I've heard that you can drive right up to the repeater via that road, but I think the gates are locked.

I always went in from the end of Tangihua Road.

Same here. I have only gone in from the Tangihua rd end across the doc / private land access.
No reason there should not be goats on the south side, just note that I think there are some hunting exclusions around the lodge.
Also some land owners are rounding up goats and don't welcome hunters like they used to.

If you go in from the Lion's Lodge is there anywhere to park for a couple of nights?

I was guessing the same would go for the lodge up there.

I'm thinking about a long weekend bow hunting mission in a few weeks, let me know what the goat/pig numbers are like.

Isn't that lodge at the end of a public road?

    I'll let you know.

Should be fine then. Heard of child's road on the north east being used. But that might be the place where yah call up the farmer.

Yep, I found their website which had a lot more information than I thought it would. Lyons Rd. has a locked gate at the start but there is a carpark there and public foot access that leads to the lodge and a number of tracks, from anywhere there you could go off into the bush, well that's my plan, just got to figure out when.
