.....Also .300 winmag for the win!
I think the 7 Rem Mag has had such a head start now (1962) with rifle and ammo supply that it's going to be hard for anything to unseat it given the only incremental advantages ie the 28 Nosler which is say 200 fps faster for the same bullet weight.

300wm does the job good
7*61 Sharp & Hart and 308 Norma Magnum. Both these developed by Schultz and Larsen diring 1950's and 60's. These were developed as so-called belted magnums but of a COAL length that did not exceed 30-06. The belt was derived from the 300 HH and it's function was to allow headspacing off the belt rather than off the shoulder or rim (as in 303).
Because the coal was no longer than a standard centrefire they actually are the early "short magnums".
Mine are both near to sixty years old and shoot sub moa with 160 and 180 grain SGK's at near 3000fps for accuracy.
The 7mm Rem mag was produced as a slightly modified but less efficient alternative to the 7*61 because S and L could not produce enough for the USA market. Hence most 7*61' swent to NZ cullers, Sth Africa and Europe. They remain highly sought after even today, just as the 308Norma Magnum is; which regarded by msny as still the best 308 magnum design.
Bit like the 375 H+H. yup there are other calibres close to it that do just as well or better (a little). The 375 ruger is a classic example-straight walled shorter case with exazercly the same performance but time is on the hollands side.
Heaps around, factory ammo and rifles everywhere and it still does the job and is trusted. Same for the 7mm remmy and the 300wm. they just work and it will take yonks to knock them off their perch
The ammo is a big thing-try forgetting your hand loaded .28 Nosler laser beams at home and then wanting to buy some at the local hunting store. I know the small mobs probably wont have a massive selection but at least a packet to get you out of trouble.
