Cheers

Not mine..... Have heard it was taken on the open block not far from town, likely to break a few records
Very very jealous, if true
Smashing head
Holy crap, thats a monster!
I bet the hunter had a case of buck fever trying to line that one up.
@223nut I’ve seen a photo and it’s a cracker alright, was it a local hunter?

It's a huge whitetail for the island, I'm sure others here can vouch that it's "average" by American standards.
I have only heard "3rd hand rumours" but it was a tourist that comes here regularly, set his trail cameras, put up a fly spent the time out there (has been some shitty weather for fly camping) came back into town, went back out and an hour later got picked up by the taxi with it
Your 3rd hand rumours are not to far off! Wouldn't call myself a tourist though, was there to hunt!
Don't set up trail cameras but a mate did once on a trip there 4 years ago.
Yes I set up a fly camp & yes the 48 hours before I shot it was some of the worst hunting conditions weather wise I've ever encountered anywhere.
Yes I walked back out for a night to dry out & warm up, and then shot the buck next morning hunting my way back into camp but no it wasn't an hour later I was picked up again, was later in the day.
And yes it will be the new No.1 buck to come off the Island.
Dont know if @ghosts has heard any stories?
holy shit thats HUGE by island standards!!!!!!!!
so it just goes to show the genetics have been there all along......something changed to allow this fella to get so much bigger....feed??? the time off from hunting last year???? hormone laiced pellets??? not likely LOL.
good on whoever did manage to shoot it.... hopefully we will see more photos sometime soon somewhere.
That would wipe out any present NZ record i reckn.Looks more American than NZ.?Good effort put in by the hunter, thats for sure.
