    Black birch bivvy

    Evening fellas

I’m heading into black birch this Friday for a few days with some fellas , we are there to add a deck and repile the bivvy for doc.
Looks like it’s a fairly easy walk so I’d imagine the area gets regularly hunted ? Looks like plenty of slips on google maps but I’d imagine they’d be fairly well grazed out by now? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

It's nearly 30 years since I was there, but there is an area called the clover patch along the ridge to the south where the track turns to drop down to Lotkow road. It was wilding pines with really nice feed (grass, lotus) in between when I was there, I expect the pines are a lot bigger now if no control has been done - Google Earth might show what it's like now.

Black bitch biv in Marlborough? Was up there a couple weekends ago. The deer took a bit of finding but they are there. More goats than you could shake a stick at though. Be worth taking a box of ammo each and do some target practice

    Black Birch in the Kawekas
Yep, the clover patch is still there, or was 3 years back anyway.
The gut below the bivvy is always worth a look
Post a couple of pics, I’ve spent a fair bit of time down that way
The contorta was getting pretty thick in places.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Clover patch worth a look but the contortas pretty bad in there now. The heads of the Donald are worth dropping into as well as well as the gut below the biv. Theres random cut tracks all through there so if you find one follow it and see where it takes you. There are a lot of deer in there given the amount of pressure it gets.

The missus and I went up there the other day for a stroll. Some fresh deer sign about. We left the area shaking our heads at the massive problem with Contorta.

It’s disgusting eh. But not an easy problem to solve either.

Only if its done properly. Have watched it being sprayed for the past 20 years in the Army land and 25-30% of the trees come back to life. Piss poor quality control and they just keep pouring money at it.

The contorta at black birch is a nightmare, the bivvys got new concreted piles and a deck just the guttering left for the new water tank to sort.
Flying the gear in on Friday was pretty tough with low cloud and drizzle but luckily we got it all in , there wasn’t too much enthusiasm for having to carry the 26 bags of readycrete in!
Plenty of sign around but too busy working to hunt then got out this arvo before the weather turned.
