I should have added that the blocks are small and are permitted for single hunter only. Anybody else on the block is poaching and a hazard to my health. They get a lot of pressure and more often than not the deer are just transient. Not particularly productive but a great training ground for honing one’s bush hunting skills.
The stag I was chasing was only giving out the odd moan every 15-20 minutes or so. If you made a sound, he would shutdown completely so not impressed when some ass-hat starts up just outside the block boundary while I’m waiting in the dark on the bush edge trying to pinpoint where this animal is.

Are you sure it was another hunter ? There are farm stags on the north boundary.
