Learn proper boresighting by taking ths bolt out and sighting down / through the bore, get it centred on your 50 yds bullseye. Hold the rifle steady in that position and adjust your crosshairs to match. Then shoot. With great luck you will have it good with the first shot. Usually though it's off, but close and a minor scope adjustment gets it spot on. Then check POI at longer distances, adjusting scope for your preferred zero.
one of the black n decker workmate benches make this a doddle to do...you can clamp the rifle in place look through bore and move Xhairs..... AND if yo utake it to range...fire your 2 or 3 shots... put rifle back in vice...move whole bench till Xhairs are back on target..eg on bulls eye... then with rifle held firmly by bench...move the Xhairs via scope adjustment till they are in centre of where your shots landed...job done. it is also very good for seeting up the lazer on rifle to Xhairs...just keep it pointed onto dark surface and look through scope and move lazer across till lines up with Xhair....

Be aware, it can be confusing, as the turrets will appear to indicate crosshair movement opposite to the arrows on the turrets.
Once near the desired aiming mark, adjust using the grid on the target, if using that type of target.
This. After bore/collimator sighting this method cost me 3 rounds to zero my rifle, and I'd never done it before, let alone fired a centrefire. That's how easy it is. Even a schmuck like me could do it.

Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.

Great advice. That would work a treat.

Using a small ruler to measure POI from POA in conjunction with understanding the adjustment values on any other scope makes the process far simpler and quicker also.

I do it the old way picking a small point roughly 25yrds out. Put a small piece of black insulation tape on the fence. Look down the bore and centre said piece of tape in centre of bore. With the rifle held in that position with no movement, adjust the scope to also to be on the tape. Keep checking both the centre of the bore and the crosshairs line up with tape. Should at least get you on paper at 100yrds when shooting.
    Final adjustments from there.
