That's culling, not "trophy" helihunting. Shooting a mob of pigs, is purely pest control. Chasing down and shooting a Bull tahr to hang on the wall IS NOT pest control.

I think some of you guys are getting confused with helihunting vs. culling.

We need machine assisted culling in NZ to manage our tahr, deer, chamois and pigs to a certain degree. Have since helicopter pest control was established. Most NZ hunters accept this. Ground hunters can't control/manage herd numbers on foot. It's impossible, and in most cases not in the hunters "best interest".

Helihunting is a completely different evil. It is paying ""hunters" forking out big money to target specific animals, ie a trophy bull tahr, red stag, chamois buck. It isn't to shoot cull animals, nannies, hinds, poor stags etc. In doing so they really knock the trophy potential of a herd around.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

No confusion, the guys in the american videos are generally offering it as an experience based service for fare paying punters, just like operators here.
The only differences in this particular situation are that NZ allows helihunting on public land and the trophy vs vermin/culling debate.
The concessions to operate on DOC land are there to protect all stakeholders & users of our back country, this fellow got caught operating outside the rules he agreed to and should face appropriate consequences. Simple

I watched a american hunting show a while back in which the dude comes to nz gets heli'd right on top of a herd of with a nice bull thar, Walks about 3m throws tripod rest down, takes the shot, doesnt even have to hike the 200m or so to get the thar, heli does it for him. What is the point?

You might as well stand in a paddock and shoot sheep cowering in the corner. It sure aint hunting as I know it. The hard work makes the prize all that much more valuable.

Ive been happy just enjoying the stories and reading the questions and answers of the forum members until I viewed this. WTF?? if this pilot also makes an income dropping legitimate hunters into the hills then he should end up regretting supporting this sort of bullshit slaughter when he realises legitimate hunters chose to fly with a pilot with morals. Its up to us as often the bread and butter customers of these oprerators to make sure we ask the right questions before we decide on hiring a heli . FARK EM!!

No idea what the penaltys were or how long the investigation could take.

Or reading between the lines"we will ignore this until it goes away"

I often wonder how many lurkers out there.

I personally know of at least one - possibly two people (hunters) that I know in real life who "know too much" which leads me to believe they're lurking on this channel ...

another one's actually admitted to being a lurker ....

anyway, welcome @Dunnos Hunter and @blair993 ... good that you finally popped up on the radar ...

If it was up to me they would lose a hell of a lot more than that Glad something happened though
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
