The world court is the UN. Sounds an out there thing to want to do.

UN would probably say to burn all the huts down nationwide...they dont want people to be self sufficeint...hell someone might get hurt looking for food rather than buying expensive vegan food flown in from their mates...

Could DOC be made to rebuild the huts in light of the court decision?

read what I typed right back at beginning of this thread...... there is zero point in rebuilding a hut..when its not the hut thats the issue.... its the self entitlement that led to a group of people thinking they now have the right to do so,because they have been told its now theirs EXCLUSIVELY ....untill that is sorted, the ywill keep getting burnt......Honi Hiki and the flag pole is a good parrallel
the horse has bolted, shut the gate and look after what you have left and make damn sure the gate is locked up solid so cant happen again.

I’m not condoning what was done for one second, but it’s been going on for decades, and not just Maori. It’s not really anything new.

Plateau hut, in fact all the huts accessible by road around Whirinaki, were burnt down late 80’s - 90’s by the locals to discourage out of town hunters.
In Pureora where I hunted, a local farmer cut a bridge out to prevent hunters from easily getting to the road end (back of his farm)

I was told there was a doc hut at the back of Poronui years back that was popular, burnt by the local cockie.

I’m not sure they’re all true.
I also sympathise with the farmers who get poachers on their property’s, and want to make things a bit harder for them.

But in this case, when Te Urewera, was handed back, this was predicted. Govt/Doc reassured us it wouldn’t, as did Tūhoe….

In my previous job we had to be aware of the social research: arson is the clearest precursor of murder.

Tuhoe won't give a shit and they're near untouchable these days anyway. Lou Samson was just the latest useless DOC bureaucrat we've had. Hugh Logan was a so-so local district conservator before he climbed the ladder and became a useless cnut. Been downhill since then and I don't believe there has been a usefull Conservation Minister since Dennis Marshall and he needed the odd rark up. Everone has to get of their arse and have their say/ make meaningful submissions every time the CMS comes up for review. If you don't you only have yourself to blame for any future outcomes. Rant over.
