    Canterbury Hunting

    Hi guys.
I have just moved to chch for work and i am keen to continue hunting.
However i am after some advice on where to go. I understand nobody wants to give to much away and you are all thinking i should put in the hard yards myself. I am just after a few pointers on where to/not to go? Deer are my favorite target species but i have been known to chase most wild game we have in NZ. Any feedback is appreciated. Feel free to private message if you dont want to say too much on here. Cheers

Wear a silly hat so we know who you are, and can switch to the secret code if you come near.........

Arthur's Pass NP would be a good starting point, Lewis Pass, the Westcoast isn't that far away, etc

Check the DOC site too as they are about to start the biggest 1080 poison drop this country has ever seen (Battle for the birds) it's going to be raining green this spring around the country.
Shut up, get out & start pushing!

I'll be there on Monday night. Introduce yourself around, put your hand out and say hello and you won't feel left out.

Agree with the above comment about Arthurs Pass. West Coast has easy access (hunter to land ratio is v low) and good deer numbers - worth the drive for a weekend, but too far for a day hunt. If you are after fallow, most farms betwenn Cave/Albury and Fairlie have numbers and most of those farmers are approachable. Easy to get into Thar country in Rangitata or Tekapo / Mt Cook but you need decent gear and isn't a place a novice would go well in. The final spot to consider is up Kaikoura way - some good deer up there.

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

Quite sad that, 90% of the worlds 1080 production is used here in NZ, no other first world county in the world uses it, it is a banned poison. For a reason.
