If the GAC was funded properly it would work, there's a reason the govt only funds it $50k a year

They bleat about funding but I fail to see how more funding for the GAC will enable it to change national policy.

From what I was sold, it WAS supposed to be a CHANGE to national policy. A blanket deal, not unlike consultation with Maori and RMA.

GAC got $50K? Wheres that gone? Anyone know? Maybe needs another thread but this is starting to smell political already

A pretty small group of hunters got the ruahines WARO decision reversed, but it did cost over $10,000 and it's not finished yet. Pretty easy to see how much money it takes to get anywhere. Sad to see a lot of people putting it down without it ever having received the support it needs to get any real results. Plenty never thought FWF would ever work either but user pays and it is working.

Those same people had been doing the same thing long before the GAC ever was mentioned. Gordon George, Derrick Field and even Greg Duley (plus an awful lot of others) deserve a very large pat on the back for their efforts in the Ruahine.
Im not bitching about what the GAC hasn't done, Im just not seeing it do anything (locally anyway).
NZDA as the default hunter representative probably needs to take this forward.

I would just suggest anyone interested to read the info on the GAC website. It's not an overnight type deal. Herds of special interest for example are planned to be outlined by 2019.

    Great post James.
Some would say too successful in the Ruahines given the deer numbers.

Well I'm going to go slightly against most of you here. I've changed my mind. I think a big poison drop is the right thing to rid the place of these parasitic rats, mice and possums. They just need to target the trouble spots a bit better.

I think this is the place for the first drop.

They shouldn't complain because they keep telling us it is safe.
