Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

I gave you a serious answer, I'm pretty sure the current repellant is blood.

Have another exclamation (!) and cheer up

Seriously, Guys, is the blood mixed in with the 1080 pellets...I would imagine that would be an attractant to mustelids and murids...yes? I am curious to know what 1080 smells like, if in fact it does have a smell...

I understand it is sprayed on immediately prior to spreading it but I may be wrong. One of our friendly 1080 operators will be along shortly no doubt

1080 has no smell, its a salt. Was interested to find out it occurs naturally in a lot of Aussie vegetation, evidently kills quite a bit of stock in regions where the plants grow. Opossums have developed a bit of tolerance for it hence the high doses needed.

yep seen stock nibble on plants going down the road and not get that far and fall over on their backs waving their 4 legs in the air!
that was in southern WA and funnily enough called the plant poison.
apparently large does of naturally occurring 1080 in the leaves
looked a bit like kiwi toot.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Why not just ask doc or the relevant local council what they plan to use as repellant?
My experience is well out of date but when asked we were both allowed and willing to give the info out and I doubt that has changed

The drop that was put in the Haurangi 2 years ago was applied as a spray and allowed to dry on the baits, The HVNZDA had reps up there along with the Aorangi Restoration Trust i believe.

    Why is it so important??

Its called EDR, which translated means Epro deer repellent. It mostly washes off in one night of drizzle.

Poison notice in paper tonight for most of Pureora Rangitoto ranges.

1080 does not occur naturally in plants. 1080 is sodium mono fluoroacetate. and has little taste but additives such as cinnamon are mixed to hide the taste.

The similar compound occurring in plants is potassium fluoroacetate and has a bitter taste which is a natural deterrent to browsing animals. It is too bitter to be used as a deliberate poison as the bitter taste cannot be concealed.

And no, I definitely do not work for the poisoners.

    Hope this is of help.
