What an awesome competition. Yet another great example of how if you’re smart, work together and get the support of other organisations you can archive great things.
A great start, 10,000 dead goats, imagine how much biodiversity that’ll enhance.

I was just thinking the same @craigc, for the amount of animals shot for the costs of the prizes this is a very cost effective pest control solution.
Did ya get a prize?
I got $100 worth of backcountry goodies as a spot price at one of the local dropoff days. Pretty good for just popping along and having a yarn to some good buggers at the event.
Fella had a nice head there too, think it was 106 from memory.
I reckon the real number of goats shot was way over 10k. I certainly didnt get the tails off every one I shot, sometimes its just too hard !
Awesome idea I hope it becomes an annual event. A wallaby one would be good too

Its not what you get but what you give that makes a life !!
@kukuwai. No, didn’t win anything. No local events here. Had to enter tails over in Nelson or ring local DOC office to make an appointment to count/collect. No support from local H&F shop or Deerstalkers. Pretty piss poor really. I only took some of the tails off animals shot and couldn’t be arsed taking heads. Possibly should have. One in image was 700mm tip to tip, there were wider ones but who cares.
Yeah. I can't believe someone in Blenheim (goat city) didn't get behind the comp. Real shame.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
My tails are still in the freezer. Never made it to a drop off haha. Won't stop me shooting goats though. I suppose I should go throw the tails out...
Congrats!!!!
I'd say there's plenty more than 10,000 shot. I shot 8 but only remembered to collect 3 tails and didn't get around to entering them and I'd say there's plenty of others.
Most tails also went to a Northland Pest Controller.
Alright, here’s First Place
Yeah, has a fair bit of Angora in that one. Back when they were worth good money before the black Friday stock market crash Northland was known for its feral Angora population.
