Jesus - this makes my piss boil.

The relationship with DOC is totally broken. They have the political leadership in Sage (Who has zero electoral mandate) they wanted to legitimise their fundamentalist agenda. Moaning will do nothing to address this fellas: you have to get out there and be heard. I have informed my MP (Labour for Tasman and West Coast) that I will never vote for him again (I wasn’t going to, before anyone asks). I encourage others to do the same as they care about nothing more than retaining their jobs.

Sadly there is no effective opposition and Labour will canter to a big win. The best we can do on the short term is to see the back of the “honourable” Conservation Minister.

Get out there and be heard fellas: the election is close and in sufficient numbers we may be heard.

What pissed me off was when they said they weren't going to target the easily accessible front country then they send out an email with pictures showing Bush stream, Rangitata with cull dots all over the place. One of the most easily accessible streams in the country. Sadly I got the email a couple of days after walking around the area for 2 days looking for a tahr for the freezer.

Negotiations with liars are always a waste of time and resources. History has proved that. DoC have proven to be intractable in the long view as far as hunting is concerned.

Well that would be subjective to the intent of the agenda

The major culling of the Karangarua has been huge blow for hunters both recreational and guided.
It is such an iconic valley and one that has meant so much to alot of people.
I just can't understand why this could have happened here of all places.

I would like areas like this managed and protected by an organisation like the Tahr foundation to prevent this happening again.
The question in my mind and many others is does this mean the end of hunting Tahr in the likes of the Karangarua until they breed up or migrate from other areas??
Is there still going to be a huntable population that have escaped or that are living in the bush??

Their policy objective is extermination from the national park. Hunter organisations need to combine forces and get the likes of Sage and the col out of government and to effectively contest the extremist forest and bird types.

The one positive is that the cull tallies can be added to the residual population estimates to check how accurate the estimates made last year were. Were there 17000 or 37000 ?
Then in the future a more honest population total can be accessed

For those that haven't seen the latest cull figures and locations.

Looking at the maps of the kill locations is real cringe worthy especially in Westland national park.
A huge number shot in the Karangarua which is a main recreational hunting area. Its a terrible loss for recreation and something that we should never forget.

The betrayal from Doc and Sage has been despicable really. The trust will no longer exist.
It’s probably just me but the only cull maps I can see there are last years and they’ve been known for a while.
Is there a link to this year’s culls I’m missing?

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

That’s only one third of this years cull done wouldn’t want to be a tahr living in the national parks for the next 6 months, and the ones that do better find themselves a nice deep cave to hide in.
