They have to way point each kill and track log the entire hunt, if one deer is within the buffer zone it will be thrown out if three deer are, three get thrown out, they just match the waypoint number to the tag on said deer, this info is given to the factory and checked every time and held for X amount of time so they can be audited can’t remember by whom tho, in regards to self regulating, it is, if you get caught out you can no longer supply the factory, you loose your certified suppliers ticket and can no longer sell deer for a living, I know one guy who this happened to and another that got caught out, lost a load but was given a warning instead

What's the consequence from doc if you don't shoot the deer in the appropriate place.

Doc took one operator to court few years ago for being caught in a RHA, not sure what he was charged with. If it’s taken from with in buffer zone not sure Doc has anything to do with it, the factory will talk to pilot or whoever to make sure it doesn’t happen again, if it does they will be punished accordingly, pretty sure no one would willing take one from inside buffer zone as if you get caught you have a lot to lose, hope that answers your question

History tells us DOC will do bugger all, there’s nothing to stop a crew shooting a deer somewhere they shouldn’t be & then pushing the waypoint button to mark it when they have flown back into a waro area. They only get snapped if hunters get them on video with gps co-ord’s, even then doc finds an excuse to let them off.

The processor will check and enter the kill data into their system as a condition of the MPI audited individual RMP (Risk Management Plan) that each processor operates under. When MPI conducts a plant Audit all of this information will be checked. The biggest biosecurity risk is animals being recovered from a 1080 poisoned area and testing positive for residues as has happened in the past. If MPI finds serious breaches the processor may have their export registration cancelled and any non-conforming product destroyed.

Last year there were a couple of operators regularly taking deer within the 2km buffer zone stipulated by mpi, I don't believe anything was ever said. In fact if you are out hunting in the Ruahines and watch the choppers work the fringe country it happens all the time.

cheers - i ended up sending to all of the names on the list, and that got thru. Also then got response from Chch DOC to say they had a gremlin in the "permissions" email addy

Got a reply back from DOC today to say
" The Department of Conservation has recently received a request under the Official Information Act 1982, asking for a copy of some of the submissions received on the 2018 national WARO concession relating to the lower North Island.
As a courtesy, we are letting you know that a copy of your submission fits within the request criteria and has been provided to the requestor. All personal or identifiable information has been removed from the copy of your submission provided to the requestor (this includes, for example, the name of the submitter, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses). "

So it would appear that some one is reading them !

Any one else get the email from DOC today ? I feel sick !
I hate to say it, but from quick read it looks like DOC have completed their review & pretty much ignored any advice or recommendations from hunters. Almost every recommendation listed is "allow more WARO". The message is clear .... we don't care less about "public interest" or hunting or business that generate income hunting ..... but of course we allow WARO operators to line their pockets.
Its not fucking "conservation land" its public land you bunch of self righteous arseholes !!!
