My tent floor is very thin and not that waterproof . I did the turps + silicone thing and on my recent trip the floor was dry and the water beaded off. I'm sure it's added some resilience to the bottom as well with asn't 100g added. It didn't smell at all either after about a day in the wound.

Durston tent?

No, but if you've gone to the trouble and expense of getting a lightweight tent, if you can avoid getting a footprint while increasing the resilience and waterproofing so much the better. I'd say the single coat I added to my 3 man tent added 70-80g. A coat inside and out would add double that and make it more resilient as well as more waterproof.

Edit: and it would only cost about $8!

I have something similar. I drop my pole out and put a rock or two on it to stop it blowing away.

@stug Have you had a bit of use out of the XMid yet? I'm looking at one currently. My main hangup is the overall size of the tent footprint and whether it's a problem finding a spot to put it up?

@LMcNab yep the footprint size can be a bit of a pain. It hasn’t stopped me putting it up, but some pitches have not been 100%. I used it a couple of days ago and needed to remove a few bushes to be able to pitch it.
I definitely like it, it is roomy, not very heavy. Most of the time finding space to pitch it hasn’t been a problem.

i got a x mid 2 (not cuben one) a few weeks back- itching to use it, but ... work gets in the way , soon tho. From memory the fly only with the cf poles is 850g. My usual 3 season sleep bag with macpac biv bag is 1.4kg for under a rectangular fly+600g =2kg so ill be saving weight 1.5kg tent+sleep bag. When me mate takes SC stealth fly, that'll make a huge out of tent cookin area and allow door open all night for ventilation whenst raining..

I brought one a few months back used it over the roar it's a palace with 1 person.
Just have a few goes at putting it up on the lawn, I'm about to take mine for 7 days on our Tahr ballot.
Really easy to erect and packs up nice and small and light.

Soooo, obsessive as I am, I have just scale drawn my current tent ( a leaky Hubba Hubba 2 person) footprint over the website footprint of the XMid 2p. It's actually not hugely different. Here it is in case anyone else is interested.
