Fiordland - wet weather and all

Anyone use sealskinz socks on their trips? Suspect feet are going to remain wet all the same on the lower slopes? Might be doing a fishing trip end of summer next year and could drop into Poison Bay for a break just south of Milford. Looks a steep valley in the bay and generally bush stalking in the area.

@Hunteast I have used them for 3ish years. Been excellent but take a little to get used to. They are more of a slip on sleeve as they are not a perfect fit like a traditional sock.
They appear to be made of several layers (3 I think) and if you used them like a standard sock they end up delaminating (can feel the layers slipping) but still work well.
I got them out of the UK.

    Cheers

So the sealskinz is worn in place of a sock?

The socks have probably changed in the last 30 years, but I bought a pair back in the mid 1990's not long after they first came out. I wore them with the recommended inner socks (might have been called Coolmax?).
I wore them one very wet day in the bush. My feet felt wet and cold all day but when I took the socks off they were dry - I decided if they still feel wet and cold what's the point of wearing them so never wore them again.

I hunted poison bay 25 years ago flat valley floor bush hunting back long way back to big hills
Deep long fiord with steep walls either side of beach head.
Creeks either side with good access
Old hunters camp and fuel depot true left
    Red beach sand is garnet.
    Ponamu is blue in colour
Big bodied animals...deer trails like foot paths all over the place
    Loved it

Thanks Cigar about your experience. I actually did have a pr of similar socks via the military early 90's. Canadian design but like you said - cold feet so what's the point. Though might splash out on these Sealskinz at $79.00 pr and give them a go? Online they look like a padded sock that's made waterproof?
Thanks Boxton - yes the map shows very steep sides alright. There is a fisherman's camp still there and in use according to some fishing mates so a private affair by the sounds?

Seem to remember there were 2 versions of the Seal Skinz. One lined and one not. I wore a thin pair of sox under my unlined pair and don't remember my feet feeling cold/wet. My boots are mostly Gortex lined now so haven't bothered with them for a while.

I use them for most big trips but not as my active sock. They stay in my pack and if my feet get wet then I use them as a means of having dry feet around camp.

I wear a normal pair of socks when heading into camp up river, 10-15 knee deep river crossings. Then once at where I want to be and not crossing deep anymore I'll put on these bushbuck socks - dry feet the whole time with soaking wet boots, hunting or around camp. Best things since sliced bread I reckon
I carry two pairs on multi day hunts so one pair can air inside out at camp.

Here’s a photo of my 25+ year old ones, one is inside out. They are almost more bootie than sock, the material is like a thin neoprene.
