Id suggest if it is a permanent type camp like I frequent make a fire place. Keep adding rocks everytime you go. Keep a good wood supply. You cant go wrong.

As an interesting side note, if you are planning to light a fire with snow on the ground (a good challenge for a long winters evening...) and then melt some snow for drinking water, any snow left above the top of the vessel will absorb the smoke (of which there is a lot if you are burning wet wood), and make the water taste like pure charcoal. Almost undrinkable. If you really get the fire cranking, it will also melt the snow from the trees and make it rain. Some of my best hunting memories are sitting around a fire. Can't wait to take my boy out and burn something when he's old enough. Enjoy!
