    Very good. I can relate to that as I shot my first deer in nz from Thomson track but from the katikati side 18 years ago :-)
    it took me 10 trips in the kaimai before getting that first one. Over the years I managed to get that average down to 5 trips and now days I am down to 3 trips to get an animal.
    So keep going at it , and you ll gradually get better and better. And once you master the hunting in the kaimais , you ll be good pretty much anywhere else in nz.
    The three essential tools for the kaimais are a gps to mark the good deer spots and find your way out,a bottle of chalk to indicate the wind direction and some secateurs .

    Congrats, such a great achievement and the first of many to come. You often have to work harder for the public land ones but they all taste great!

    Thanks mate. She’s a Tikka T3X .308 cut down to 16 for the bush but I haven’t managed to find anything in the bush yet. Got about 50m away from this guy and it put him straight down.
