    Take a compass and head for the Kaimais . Plenty of deer in there .
    Stick too one area and get too know it well .
    Youll find sign as soon as you leave the track , Then you find old logging tracks too follow , then youll get barked at , then youll spook one , but after abit of effort youll get one.
    Go by yourself , Leave your sling at home , leave your scope on the lowest power , tape your compass too your stock .
    If you have too ask where the deer are your not hunting !!

    An alternative may be to go for a walk without your rifle in Te Tapui blocks, just to get some confidence off track with gps/compass & map. Slightly easier country in there imho
