I was a member for 3 yrs, NCDA.Went to the odd working bee, good social event.Good meetings and listning to hunters talks on their overs seas hunts.
But it was allways hard work trying to mix n chat, you felt like a stranger at every meeting.
Iv have meet many 1000s of guests in my bnb over the 28years so iv had plenty of practice at meeting n greeting people.
But it was allways hard work at the NCDA meetings.Maybe i looked like a poacher or night hunter😄I did win the top red stag trophy one season. And it was shot on the 16th April at 6.30am up the Rakaia.Id loved a vidio of him trotting up the river towards me,buitifull stag chasing two hinds.
Any how back to work, have a good day guys.

Thanks again for the advice team. Four days in the Lewis Tops got me what I was after.

This was the oldest stag of many seen, and the only metric I was concerned about. Holding a large group of hinds in a basin, so I'm thinking was the right guy to expire. Lots of things learnt in the process and already planning a return trip, need a bit of recovery first though, logged around 40km under the pack and over 2km in vertical ascent.

What a place we live in!

Great work! Did you roar him up, or sneak into him?

Sneak in. Spotted him at about 1.5km and got into 260m for the shot.

awesome result and also...THANKYOU for letting us know how you got on

I believe part of the issue for NZDA and indeed any place/club or even forum for that matter when trying to keep new members is how wary many folks, and yes Im definately guilty myself, are of newbies who arrive pick brains then bugger off never to be seen again.
I know personally of a fella who went on old furum picked brains got some great info, shot two RIPPER stags, both would go close to 350DS and then left forum never to be heard from again..he even went so far as to say he was amazed folks gave him such good info..I went out of my way to help him and cured him of flinch by taking him out to shoot targets etc and built his confidence back up.gave him some decoys too..found them shot up in bottom of pond at later date.
once bitten twice shy sort of thing, the respect of another fellas prime hunting areas just isnt there anymore with some folks.
the same with folks who snapped up heaps of stuff on the give away/pass on thread..then never even bothered to post photo of them in use.... probably onsold via facebook in some cases
but there are good folks around who are genuine....this fella strikes me as one of them...enjoy your venison, and give that dog a pat, looks not to sure about he spikey headgear LOL.

Appreciate the true and kind words Micky Duck. Agreed, the dog enjoys eating the offcuts, but was not sure about the antlers. Good company though.
