Forest & Bird v The Wapiti Herd

Article in Newsroom, looks like Twig & Tweet are going to take the Dept of Conservation to Court over the Wapiti Herd in Fiordland under the National Park rules. This will turn into a shit fight for the ages.

We are fortunate that we have the Game Council, a Minister for Hunting and Fisheries and a revitalised NZDA then.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

except where the Authority otherwise determines, the native plants and animals of the parks shall as far as possible be preserved and the introduced plants and animals shall as far as possible be exterminated:

so that is straight from the act -- otherwise determines - twigs and tweeters need to read the act -- DOC would seem to be within the act - clear as -- as hunters we can defend what those muppets want

How does one best express ones disagreement upon this latest attack on hunting?

Its unfortunate that all F and B members get tarred with the same brush as the loonies at the top of that organisation.

The average member wants to do good things in their local area , be it weed control or possum control or just picking up litter on a bush walk. They dont share the crazed , Eugenie Sage-type idealogies of those who control the organisation.

The intent of Forest and Bird at local level gets swept under the carpet by the leaders who follow their own agenda and answer to no one.

Too true. I have just emailed them to say their attack on Wapiti has portrayed the organisation as extremists and does not endear them, or their cause, to the general public.

They do a lot of work behind the scenes like bird counts , the people that give up their time to do that sort of stuff are great. Like a lot of charities they've been taken over by some awful grifters and bullies. I'd never donate a cent to them but I'll happily give to the legal defence of the wapiti when the details of the fighting fund are posted here.

Was just thinking that - this will be one of the first big tests for the 'new' NZDA and we've probably never been better ready for it. Thank goodness, because this will be a precedent setting debate.

What a coincidence it rolls out at the start of the roar.

Forest & Bird v The Wapiti Herd

It seems such a waste of power and influence for their (F&B) top-level to continually focus on countering productivity

A few yearts back, a fella that was way more wise than me told me that you will get nowhere fighting a "group" from the outside, if you wanta see results fight them from the inside. There is nothing stopping us from joining F&B and turning up to their meetings and having our say as a member. And if enough of us joined and responsibly and eloquently put our case forward, over time their may be a change. Get enough members behind you and you could get elected to the committee, and then National Exec. Now that would certainly put a cat amongst the pigeons!
