Thread: Goat hunting near Pencarrow, Wellington

Hey Team,

New here and to hunting on public land in general. I rode out to Pencarrow Lighthouse in Wellington and couldn't believe the amount of Goats (saw at least 50x out there). It seems like they're really out of control. I was wondering if anyone knows whether they're free to hunt? I'm using a bow if that makes much of a difference.

From the map on the DOC website it looks like hunting is not allowed.

There are signs along the coast road that you probably rode along saying no hunting.

Also suggest that if you haven't already, to get permission from the GWRC ranger to ride on the private land past the lake - again, there is a big sign. Rode out there last weekend and suffered a bit of the old unscratchable itchy trigger finger...

Nope, no hunting there, is all private land with some council reserve around the lake I believe? Likewise the other side passed Wainui Beach, private land till some distance towards the Wairarapa, then its DOC.

I tried getting permission via council a few years ago but they weren’t having any of it
