going for first animal labour weekend - looking for advice

    Hey team,

weather permitting looking to head out for a few days (with everyone else I know ) to try and bag my first animal.

Depending on wind direction I've got a couple of areas I'm eying up

    bruce stream/Jordan stream
    east harden
    upper taramakau
    taipo
    black hill range

Not targeting anything specific, it'd just be nice to get the first one under the belt.

Any advice appreciated DM or post Cheers.

    Cheers

    Hi Liam,

Tops above the Jordan is not a bad spot for Chamois, deer do get shot on the flats around Anti Crow but it will be a bit early for any spring growth which drags them out onto it. Check the DOC 1080 maps for the next couple on your list. I think the Hawdon has had a few doses?

The Lake Sumner RHA has a lot of deer in it and might be a better bet.
    Good luck

Dont go too far or you will spend all your time walking in and out. From Darfield, there are a lot of deer around Stavely

so I keep hearing......maybe I need to change my destination slightly and see if they can be located...numbers nearby havent increased one little bit in last few years...the close to stavely bits of bush are interesting as its VERY easy to pop out onto back of someones section..most disconcerting.

attempt number two next week planning 3 days
trying to decide between jolliebrook sumner RHA, sylvia tops or heading south around black hill range or further south around the hakataramea
    fingers crossed
