got the bead on one, 7mm Rem mag stylez.

after sussing some questions on reloading for the big rem mag, many thanks involved, i shot a bunch of targets, got my inch drop test sorted, an started practising dialling for animals... the size of sambar deer out to 500m. personal realistic fair chase opinion.

anywho, using those SSTs and 2213sc, below is the outcome after a longer arvo than expected.

    Cheers

Interesting reaction after the shot, appeared un hit. Where did the bullet hit? Are you using the 162 gr SST, and what charge of powder.
I used the 162 gr SP in my old 7 mm mag with 65 grs of 2213 SC which worked ok

and here i am being told the SST is a super grenade JOKES> ive tested it enough prior to shooting to know it is more rapid expanding than say a Corelokt in my opinion, So i actually held off on some oppertunities at say 80-120m away and didnt even contemplate the spooked deer..

then i had that happen, an i got the video on her 10 sec after shot, an it shows her for a 30 sec period or so, then i lost her.. because i was in the binos an not on the camera i didnt actually see what happened until editing/watching back and she basically sat down and then another minute or so after glassing the hillside looking for any movement? the thing comes tumbling down end for end.
the bullet hit a bees dick back due to my Zero being off to the Left 1 moa to begin with, i just wanted to avoid shoulder at all cost. photo somewhere woth the flash as bullet entered hide) post up in here in a tick

reasonable sized exit hole il post some more pics i spose.

63 grains... Rem primers, RP brass and the 162 SST here. (have 30 left, been practising dialling an just shooting the big bugger in general) then moving onto ELDX an most likely 2217 or reloader 26 pending how much money i have lol.
i do want to continue using this SST for practise though, around $73 /100 + $10 freight if unavailable near by, which is ok.. an the 2213 speed works for me? hmmm lol.
    at the hit/taken off

    bees dick high proberly too....
another classic story for yas, when doin me inch drop testin my rangefinder was throwin a couple randoms an i thought id be up for a new battery soon...
did my range testing and called it sweet..... hit that hind sorta high for 300, an nek minit the battery went flat a day or two later..

i got a new battery up from big town and went to where i did my shooting from... hmm, not quite adding up.

i had a few hours spare, so i grabbed the remmy 7 mag and dialled for 300m an aimed on a target with 6 inch inner circle- (this needs to be consistantly hit for me to shoot animals at that range/limit)
anyway, boom over the top, righto, 400, boom high , righto long story short, My distances were not true and i had to re calibrate my inch drop an dial deets....

    should be allllright for now!!

except theres snakes galore wanting to get ya

Good performance with that load and I think the ELDX should be similar if not better than the SST.
A mate of mine shot a big bodied sambar stag a few years back using a 270 and factory 130 gr SSTs at 260 yds but his first shot was in the guts, the stag ran no more than 30 yds and stopped and was looking mighty sick when the next shot hit its shoulder and he went straight down.
I haven't had a lot to do with SSTs but they do seem to work ok. My grandson shot his first deer while visiting a few years back with my 243 using a 95 gr SST at 236 yds , my son was with him and said the stag rolled over feet in the air and never moved again, pretty impressive performance.

Yeah i cant complain but i wont praise it from one shot yet ha ha.

ive done a fair bit of asking and searching in regards to this bullets Rep on the elks, the eldx is preffered choice there so thats where il concentrate id say, an possibly even some Speers i seen for good price 160gr.

cheers for that info, sounds like alot of energy being dumped on those deer and not much ele ya can ask for really, keeping clear of that leg bone (to be more specific) should see enough damage internally , lite a smoke an wait fifteen
il report back i rekon once i deck a few an maybe recover one

We’ve used both SSTs and ELD-Xs and have had much better results with the ELD-Xs, although at shorter ranges than you are contemplating.

The ELD-X leaves a pretty big exit wound at shorter ranges (under 100m) so would spoil a lot of meat if that was the reason you didn’t want to hit it in the shoulder.

Sst less of a grenade at range but will blow up if you shoot an animal up close at speed. Great work on the deer though

Good on you for getting one down, but SST wouldn’t be my choice for big sambar. Unless shooting at long range Nosler Partitions would be ideal, esp for big stags.

The SST have been good for Thar too, I was sending the 154 sst out of a RM and never had a run away, never more than a few steps usually less,
They seemed to have very good penetration even on Big bulls in their winter woollies too.
Have now changed to the a-max, will see how they do.
To be honest though I don't think it matters a hell of a lot when you are sending a pill at those speeds and of that weight.

Nah man, that area im hunting in un burnt, the rest of the district is toast and the animal numbers are LOW! extremely low.

hunters from the city and across border will be in town come november 8th once lockdowns cease, these guys will be able to bang on more about lack of animals in the burn than i will..... im always bangin on about something- takes peoples own visual to take note of what i bang on about....

8 months ago i said theres fuck all deer...... everyone is chomping at the bit to get in the bush n hunt... they will be very suprised.

10 years until the hunting is good in my Area...
plus Parks victoria aireal culled any "national park, or regional park" in Vic, so numbers are down down down across the state.

thats why im takin a few Hinds from unburnt areas and realistically, letting alot walk off to drop a few babies next year and kick start the hunting in the area again

up hill battle is every oppertunite one gets, they will shoot these deer.... futures grim until the regrowth makes hunting almost impossible without dog crews..

    oh an thermall cnts

yeah mate i could see a SST being good for a Bull tahr, ye ol Sambar is about 3 of them wide, an 4 of them long the bone structure can upset a projectile big time.

for the record im about to start loading the ELDXs , an also changin powder over..

Accubonds, partitions , all those sleeker premiums are the GO for Sambar, i do wanna see what a 160gr ppsn woodleigh flies like shortly too. that will reliably perform from 30 to 600!
