Welcome Muzz333
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
We are off for a hunt tomorrow night. Fingers crossed
So I just got back from a hunt with Nathan and Geoff, Great fun learned more in 2 days than in as many years prior.
Big thanks to Nathan and Geoff for dragging me along and putting up with my stupid questions.
I will definitely be putting what I learned into practice over this summer and hopefully I can come away with some more game.
Thanks again.
That is brilliant. Good on the guys for taking you out

The only advice I could give a new hunter is, as the seasoned hunters who have spent time out of the tops will know, is to buy really really good boots and a really really good sleeping bag...to hell with the cost...the weather can turn to custard in our little country very very quickly...
...amitie, respect mutuel et amour...
...le beau et le bon, cela rime avec Breton!...

Great advice there!
When I was working at an outdoors shop and selling sleeping bags, I would always tell the men who came in to buy what they wanted for themselves and then a warmer bag for your wife! When she's out crying about cold toes all bloody night, you'll be wishing you paid the extra $300 for her bag..
I special ordered a bag through H&F about six years ago now; it sure does the business. Comfort to -30degrees, cost me a little over a grand. Money well spent.
She loves the free fresh wind in her hair; Life without care. She's broke but it's oke; that's why the lady is a tramp.
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Your obviously a cold sleeper then.
-30 comfort rating!!!
Is it huge?
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

Build some relationships with NZDA, gun clubs and gun shops ... and read heaps ... magazines, books, internet, ... I agree with earlier comments - get up to the tops and get up 2 hours earlier.
Soak it up. ATB and keep safe in those alps.
All the best gear in the world will still get you killed if you have no mountain nous. Cant stress strongly enough join NZDA at least for a couple of years. Do a Hunts course.
Get out there with experienced guys. It will make your hunts not only enjoyable but put a lot more meat in your chiller.
