District with highest hind numbers in South Island

Where does everyone's experience tell them the best districts in the South Island are for getting out and shooting some meat animals?

Why do you need the one with highest numbers?

Only need to find one a trip? Or plan on shooting a mob?

The more animals in a area, the more ears and eyes and can make for harder hunting.
Pick a spot and go for it. Ask your local doc for areas or even your local hunting shop to get you started. Join the local deer stalkers.
I am sure SI is like NI at the moment where its never been any easier to harvest a game animal at the moment.
Soon as that spring growth starts check out slips and river flats early and late evening

Curious. What is the purpose of the pole? Are you looking for an area where a cull would be most beneficial ?

If you are in ChCh go to the Pinchgut and out to Cattlepeak stream, but none of the Back steaks and boned out hind quarters leave half the meat on the hill BS

No trouble finding them in the Canterbury area, and have my own spot x's sorted like everyone else. But in the year I've been hunting in SI I've been surprised at numbers being quite low. I often see articles about certain area's being overrun with deer but am a bit skeptical. Given the pressure from govt to manage animals I wonder if us Christchurch based people should be going further afield to target area's where numbers at too high.

I've found DOC to be super helpful and try to routinely give them a call about area's I'm going into. I can't say the same about deer stalkers, have been a member for a couple years and don't rate it as worthwhile, that said I'm pretty inconsistent with getting to the meetings.

Just to be clear, no plans on doing a rambo and gunning down a mob. Have carried all the meat from every animal out. Don't want your spot x's, if by voting for 'Otago' or 'South Canterbury' you think you're giving your spot away then don't vote.
