Years ago near Koromiko in Marlborough, I came around a blind corner on the state Highway to a hell of a blood stain across the whole road, like a slaughterhouse floor.
Apparently truck fresh off the early ferry came around the corner and hit a whole mob crossing the road, judging by the quantity of blood it got most of them

Coming home from Christchurch one night when I lived up there, rough seas and a high tide meant they were all over the road. Counted probably a half dozen that had been hit and barely missed a couple myself. Pretty grim

Working in the Aussie mines in the 1980's when our blasting work was ahead of the rest of the crew we would truck dump trucks. Just the small 150 Tonne variety. The waterpipe keeping the pit dry ran alongside the 10km haul road and attracted wildlife from miles around with its leaks and subsequent lush vegetation.

Those rear duals on the dump trucks turned 200kg red kangaroos into 10m long pizza bases real quick

Guy hit a deer here a few weeks back in the early hours, took the legs out and it almost punched the windscreen right in. Gave him a hell of a fright, as it dropped off the bank right in front of him and bang. I don't even think it registered as a deer before he hit it, bloody lucky nothing was coming the other way as he ended up on the wrong side of the road in the drainage cut. Made a mess of the bumper, bonnet, windscreen and pushed the roof back, photos were impressive. Haven't heard if the car is a write off yet. Didn't think to ask what he did with the animal either.

Mate came up on the ferry one night, arrived back home near Aucks early in the morning and went to bed. Woke up about midday and couldn't figure out what the stench was outside the house... Had seal bits caught up underneath the truck (hot summer day and parked on the road). That was a pretty grim cleanup.

A couple of months ago a friend was heading home to Kaikoura, towing a trailer of roofing iron. A fawn stepped out, and he couldn't swerve with that load so clipped it head and had some tasty meat in the freezer.
