Looks like a decent drive to the site.

I have had my most success at galatea foot hills. Never ventured down the horomunga.

I shot my first deer in the Horomunga. Spent more than a couple of nights at Midway Hut and met a guy in there who has now been a good mate for over 25 years. I recall an old guy named Harry in there, met him a couple of times. Interesting character. We arrived in late to Midway one night and he made us a brew while we unpacked. I still remember that brew - a clasic billy tea. Its a shame to hear the huts have been burned down.

Harry, he was a local ?
Lived at Midway for a week or two, then rode back out to Murapara ?
Think I remember meeting him a couple of times, if it’s the same guy.
He used to meat hunt that area, back when you could drive a landrover up as far as Midway.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !
