I've posted about it before. It is after all, one of my few great hunting moments!
My second ever deer hunt and first public land deer hunt. Hunting alone in heavy rain thinking what the hell am I doing. Walked around a heavily foliated tree and there was a big red hind chomping away on the leaves less than 2 metres away. Couldn't see anything in the scope apart from deer. Pulled the trigger and she ran. Managed a perfect, though unnecessary Texas heart shot and she fell. After calming down a bit, the shaking stopped and I thought, fuck, that was easy! That was 2019 and the last deer I shot.
Does standing on a deer count? Stepping over a log.
Sunning itself at 5pm. Not sure who got more of a fright. No animal was harmed....
Last week shot one at 10 paces. Browning BLR in 223 with red dot goodness
100m exactly. Big shot for the Pureora too.

275 yards. A hinds laying down, through the shoulder and then it’s yearling, in the neck.
Both shot with 150 ELDX out of a 19 inch .284 Tikka T3 with a Hardy barrel.
@Micky Duck I have to say New Zealand has been metric for around 50 years now
While using meters or yards is a personal choice for the individual hunter.
The use of Meters would be correct for such an important thing as a Poll Like this ( good science )

Sunday lunchtime 35 m can't remember shooting any over 60 m in probably the last 70 deer .
Your agenda is obvious MD. You may be happy with a slightly accurate rifle and yes most times that will 'do the trick' and yes most hunt/kill deer inside 200 but there is absolutely nothing wrong with refining accuracy to be far better than good enough, practicing at long range and killing at long range when it presents itself. You seem to have something against it?
I appreciate the message MD repeatedly spouts on this forum. I’m not sure who he’s trying to help with this thread, but it’s a good reminder for people like myself that for the vast majority of hunting you don’t need half MOA groups or expensive equipment to put meat in the freezer. Its an easy message to lose, when a newbie like myself regularly sees forum members posting tiny groups on paper and wearing big scopes on flash rifles.
