went searching for a longer range animal with my first real missile launcher-7-300wsm 175grn @ 3070.200 yard yearling was all that was on offer.
Not quite correct. Rather than having issues re really accurate.im showing that in.....what's it now?70% ?? Of cases the rifle that will poke holes into 2"/50mm at hundred yards/meters will kill the AVERAGE deer with no fuss or bother. In times of component shortage, the NEED to use fifty rounds to make sub MOA loads,to shoot a deer at under 300 yards/meters seems somewhat...pointless/redundant
75/15/10 black powder matters
12m
538m, 123 sst out of a 260. The one before that was 540m, standing in pretty much the same spot.
Edit. The deer were standing, I was laying down. I try to shoot prone for shots further than 400m........

Seems Micky Duck got banned? What’s the go there?
0m because I haven't got one yet . Goat at 15m though.
I am currently working on building my shooting skills so the more accurate I can get my rifle the better to compensate somewhat for excitement and poor form/tiredness in the field.
Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.
330m on a young goat a couple of weekends ago.
I have been following this thread, unsure if I wanted to weigh in on the conversation, but now I think I will. I think that testing ones ability to shoot at range is something that you develop as time goes on, especially if you get into alpine when it can at times become a necessity if you want to pursue a trophy. Walking for a week to take one shot encourages one to remove as many variables as possible and it is a good tool to have in your toolbox if the chance presents itself.
Nonetheless, if it is about getting meat in the freezer I tend to agree that generally you can get away with a rifle that is capable out to 300m most of the time. Hence why flat shooting cartridges with modest projectile weights like the .270win have been so popular as a do-it-all rifle for so many years.
I have found myself carrying belted magnums with big scopes for fun on numerous occasions and often not getting the chance to use them for excessively long shots... but man is it fun when the chance presents itself and you confidently put an animal on deck at decent range, especially after the countless rounds you put in practicing and hours fine-tuning your reloads!
9m Whitetail on Rakiura.
Surprised at how many people are shooting at sub 25m. Bushstalking deer is a skill that escapes me and I'd love to develop overtime. Tops hunting is awesome, but it would be nice for the bush lower down to be an option as well.
100m in the light.
Got 3 out of 4
