Makes me laugh. You guys get all excited because you see one easy deer close to the road, and will jump through hoops to get permission to hunt where it probably isn’t any more.

With a little bit of leg work, and with the benefit of not having to deal with cockies, you can wander into DOC land where the things abound.

When the first version of the Koordinate site first came on line, when adding the Land Polygons to the map, the owners details where displayed (including phone number and street address. Massive privacy breach.

The best way is if you know a land surveyor, they "could" log into the LandONLINE site for LINZ and get the info. This would also be breaking the law too.

Like @Tahr said, if the DOC land that they came out of is legally able to be hunted, just hunt that.

Search the address in the local council GIS or rating database. Nothing illegal about it, land ownership is generally public record. If its owned by a company you can look that up in the companies register and see who the directors are. Whether its worth the effort is another question though, most cockies will say no to a random call asking for hunting access.

Councils cant give out private info.
You can buy it for a couple of dollars using QV.co.nz though. Type in the address, select the property on the map, hand over some dollars and you can look the owner up in the phone book.
Ive had a pretty good conversion rate with this method. Just be polite when speaking to them. And be sure to thank them for at least taking the time to listen to you - regardless of outcome. In the past they have replied with neighbors details.
For the ones you do get, leave the occasional dozen at the door - even better some fresh game, or get the wife to bake a cake.

The owner of a parcel of land isn't considered personal/private information unless the person has requested it to be hidden from publicly open records. Neither is their phone number, which you can generally look up in a phone book.

There is deer around a lot of the Waitomo area in small pockets, the red are here today, moved tomorrow.
The fallow seem to stay in a area. Have seen 9 red hinds between HW3 and Waitomo Caves one morning on day light, never seen them again.

Sounds like you need to familiarise yourself with the info available at data.linz.govt.nz

Create an account with that site, and request access to the 'restricted' info on this page: https://data.linz.govt.nz/layer/805-...luding-owners/. Ensure you read, understand, and agree to the licence restictions, which also refers to info in the Privacy Act 1993.

It will likely take a few days to have your access to that info approved, but once you do, you can view the info on the map. Simply add that layer to the map by clicking on the big yellow + sign, and navigate to and click on the property parcel you're interested in. A small pop-up window will appear, showing, among other things, ownership information. You will have the name of a legal entity - an individual, a group of people, a trust, an Iwi, a company, whatever.

Go from there, and remember what Uncle Ben told Peter Parker before he became Spiderman - "With great power comes great responsibility". Don't be a dick with the information you have access to, or it may be taken away from you and other legitimate users.
