Shit I could have brought that tardme 270, smites animals left right and centre deal for 500 bucks and saved a f@#king fortune

Seriously might I suggest doing a Hunts course and trying as many other guns as you can.
Someone at the local deerstalkers might even have something they would part with that you could see, touch, feel and shoot first.

I have some real shockers in the flesh which were described as gold standard on that site.

Would be a shame to see you sink all your cash into a dud.

First rifle, limited budget , but a decent budget, 800$ is nothing to sneeze at.
If you wish to buy new, rather than second hand
Perhaps you could look toward the marlin xl7, I hear they are a fairly competent rifle with a good accuracy reputation.
One of the Howa packages maybe.

i have been told to keep away from Remington, stoeger, Brno, mossberg riffles. not sure why but apparently would be buying myself a problem. not really sure what calliber i want but will mainly be hunting goats and deer in the kaimais as i cant really travel too far at the moment.
Woah, woah, woah! Brno's are the best thing since slice bread as far as im concerned. I use a Brno 223 and every deer has been accounted for over the last 10 years. I would like a Brno 243 though as my next step up.

There are plenty of good second hand firearms out there. See if you can get someone from here to check out any you are interested in.

Bugger me if you use the "buy now" he will throw in the Leupold for free, pity it may possibly be fake, at least it looks that way from the picture and from here Counterfeited Leupold Mark 4® riflescopes.

    Buyer Beware I guess

possummatti. If you haven't already done so, pop in and have along chat with Chris in Sportsworld, matamata. He has a smallish selection that you can have a feel of, and is a real good bugger to talk to.
I was in there yesterday and quite tempted by a wee Bergara scout in 44 mag. @700
