No not quite. Yes there is a restricted part of the river. This is where all the huts are based, mostly private, and there are lots of them.
The Orong is a long river and you can hunt quite a bit of it.
It has changed, the restrictions, in 10 years since i left. The only restriction I remember was the Landcare research block and the Palliser Station block at the bottom as well as the GRWC blocks.
Those GRWC blocks were a bit of a joke with most of the ballots going to the mates of council workers. Never saw any trophies in there, most were quite small.

I attached the brochure with the rules on it.

yes, I am new for big game hunting. I only have experience of hunting rabbits, they are easy to catch as they are every where in a farm, and I don't have to find them as they come to me instead.
but big game is different, animals hiding in wild and they have good sense of smell and hearing. I have no dogs, people told me that it is quite hard to sticking pigs without a dog.

Ok to hunt/shoot in the Catchpool Valley if your more than 200m from the edge of the riverbed or more than 200m from the Catchpool track. Also no hunting between Browns Stream and Peak Stream
however this may change as Landcare research have pulled out of the valley.

Is ok to shoot in the Orongorongo valley as long as your more than 200m from the rivers edge and not between Browns stream and Peak stream and more than 200m from the Orongorongo track. No hunting within the Catchpool valley.
