Here is a hint : don't look at the following websites for any info on the restrictions:

    covid19.govt.nz
    police.govt.nz
    health.govt.nz

These bloody muppets do and will interpret the law in all kinds of mysterious ways...

    rather go here

    legislation.govt.nz

specifically, look for the Covid19 Public Health Order

My take on it is that you are allowed to fish/hunt in places "readily accessible from home" that wouldn't require search and rescue etc. regardless of your ethnicity. Not trying to be a dick or find loopholes, just trying to understand the rules.

    @Mohawk .308, section (f) does

But you could also read section (e) in a way that "recreation" includes fishing/hunting in ways other than the specific provisions of point (iii)...

There’s no loop hole . If you you are Maori it is clearly written in legislation that you can exorcise customary rites and go fishing or food gathering in the middle of a pandemic at its highest level .

Numerous links to that legislation are available look it up .

What gets me is that as a man of the land all my life I’m excluded from this “customary rites” but even more so how is it possible the country is in the middle of public health crisis customary rites are still able to be exorcised to the detriment of our entire country? …is the current government so terrified of upsetting at best 16% of the population they are willing to sacrifice the other 84% , is this where we are at ? .
For the record I am no racist this is not what the OP was about more so it’s about a government that is dividing us and putting our fellow country men and woman at odds with each other and to my way of thinking it is the first tangible evidence rite there for all to see .

The way I read the "allowance" is pretty much if you have a handy pipi bed nearby you can wade around and get some but no diving etc, presents more as making sure people who rely on these foods still have access to them rather than it being a recreational extra.
I'm staying home, give the animals time to build confidence and give the pipi beds a rest, I don't need them to get by and am happy enough working on fitness around home so my next hunt is more enjoyable

Mmm, I’m afraid mate all that crowd are doing atm are beating up their mrs’s - I know.

This other bunch are riding around like it’s a Sunday afternoon zooming past walkers (us peasants) towards Whaka and then returning an hour later.
I forget the stats but they are right up there as far as accidents are concerned- but hunting? Don’t start that again…
I work with a couple of big banana bike riders and cocks the lot of them

I was led to believe it was 5kms from home?

It becomes very much how you perceive your own interpretation.
Always a way to turn it around to ones own advantage.
Should you choose to go hunting there ate jist a few rules to follow so as to not pit others at risk
Injuries/ medial events -do the right think and shoot yourself.
If yoi are caight by the feds you automatically loose your firearms licence for 5 years and are subject to a fine and forfeited said firearms.
    Go on do it please

Il never forget a 80 year old coaster woman scoop netting on the Arawhata giving my big brown brother his beans because he was set netting on the wrong side of the stump that was on the bank , fortunately for me I was behind him so was largely left un molested as she would place her scoop inside the mouth of his large set net .
