Just a whimsical choice, I was listening to a funny podcast a few days ago where a larry was mentioned in passing, I guess that was the inspiration.

Good stuff Max, a great feeling getting that first deer. I read one of your earlier posts where you said you hadn't got one yet and I was thinking you know plenty about reloading and shooting so it's great you now have your first deer.

Agreed @bully, I think I overstepped the mark a bit on this one, sorry fellas. Sometimes a bit to inquisitive for my own good. Or should that be fussy. Or something worse. Anyway, I think I found the answer... I'd been using two different Ballistic Tip designs without even realising... one blows up, the other most certainly doesn't...

Good stuff Max. My experience is a bit opposite to yours. Shot a few deer some years ago (not many) then moved to a different part of South Is and much like you once "were" . . . I an am an armed tramper of late lol.

Congratulations Max. You are now a man.
Don't worry about the bullet. Its easy to over analyse on one example and wild animals are unpredictable by definition.

I once shot a hare with a .308 once right through the ribs and it ran for a 100 metres with nothing at all inside its chest. I don't use a .308 anymore. That was definitive.

Well done. The first is always the one you won't forget. As others have said, don't over think it, just enjoy your achievement.

great stuff Max...and the ballistic tips work fine at lower speed (we have had bang flops with 125grn from 7.62x39mm not eggzachary honking along) as others have said, take out the front wheels bro....you cant drive anywhere without them. its Friday today so looking forward to the tasting report
re speed of reloads.......Ive gone down this rabbit hole and gone full circle...for years I loaded mild due to a naasty habit (starts with f rhymes with grinch) and killed deer etc OK.after fitting suppressor my loads have crept back up to semi hot side of the line and yes they do seem to preform a tad better....plinking or small game loads going slow is fine but big stuff with relatively light projectiles like you are using, push them along a bit faster and see how you go,they should open up faster and make more mess, but if you miss rib on way in there isnt much resistance to start it off.

I had a few butterfly steaks last night, which tasted pretty good, and I have a crockpot full ticking away on the kitchen table.

yup no judging from me. haven't shot many either and seen not many more. I was either hopeless, lazy or just wasn't going where there were any so didn't see any..
Did 10 years of purgatory in Oz and never went out over there so I have the skill of a basic starter really with older person fitness and worn out bits
    well done
