    Kaimanawas - Umakarikari Track

Greetings. Anyone know if the Umukarikari Track up and over to the Waipakahi River is currently open, after the Cyclone?

Nothing on the DoC website to say it isn't.

Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

Not sure I'd entirely rely on the DoC website. It hasn't been updated to note the damage on the Kaipo track .....

Even if there was windfall / storm damage its a pretty easy track in most places so should be able to just detour around the bush.

They were chasing volunteers for chainsaw work about a week ago.

Yeah, but they want a whole bunch of NZQA credits for those wielding chainsaws. Bushmen with 40 years chainsaw experience but no tickets... ???

Was up there last week. Doable with a bit of detouring through the bush now and then. Worst case is you drop down and walk down the river. A nice gentle river to wander down until you hit the tussock.
