Kawekas sika roar - which rifle to take?

Going back to the Kawekas at the end of April for the roar. In a bit of a quandary about which rifle to take. As a Kawekas virgin last year, I took my Tikka 7mm08. Having experienced the place, I see that roar hunting goes on in the bush where 50 metres would probably be the maximum distance - am I wrong? Now thinking about taking my bush gun which is a single shot Bergara in 300BLK. It's a handy little rifle. I shoot well with it at short range and have been impressed with the ability of the Hornady FTX rounds to put goats down. Published muzzle velocity is 2085fps and energy is 1303ft/lb. What do you think?

    either one mate

take the tikka, in case there is 2 or 3 deer haha

i used to have a bergara single shot, it sucked when there were multiple animals to shoot quickly

If you can't kill it with bullets, dont f*ck with it.

The ol jap stags can be a pretty hardy animal to put down during the rut, blk should do the job but id prefer to have a repeater to have a quick follow up shot if need be. Have seen a monster sika walk off with a 6.5 bullet in it during the roar, a second well placed follow up would have finished the deer i believe

As keengunNic said the Sika stag when worked up can take lead. I shot a 8 pointer years back with my 3006 with 150 gr Hornady at about 60 odd yards in shoulder, went straight down then jumped up and took off only a short distance. Dug bullet out on offside shoulder.
7 mm 08 might give you a bit more grunt and a faster follow up shot if needed.

yip take the repeater...and some heavier blunt nosed loads.... there are great projectiles in 7mm as were made for 7x57 back in the day and the 7mm waters also has flatties...its a 30/30 necked down so you doing same as guys running 30/30 projectiles in 308.....

Tikka 7-08, you'll be cursing when there's a nice jap 8ptr on a slip outside of the 300blk's effective range.
