Here's the knife I'm sending him. Its my old gutting & arse-hole knife from when I was commercial hunting. So the lad is doubly lucky.

There is so much negative black cloud shit on this forum now a days its good to be involved in something positive.

That is a very nice knife, maybe too good to give the lad to learn with straight off. What about giving him a little folder to use (like the ones H&F gave away with fishing licences a couple of years ago) and tell him that the good Knife is sitting on the shelf waiting for him to prove that he can be trusted to use it safely and correctly and to not loose it ?? The longer the blade the easier to cut yourself

His Mother can decide if he gets it to use now by himself, under supervision when he's hunting, or if it gets put away for when he's older. I have put a note to that affect with it.

Either way he gets to be encouraged about hunting and will have something that represents generosity from a kind stranger in an otherwise quite self centred world.

Nice one Tahr. That is a positive thing to do. Cool knife, I can see how it would be useful for those south end jobs.

Found this generation 1 Cold Steel Tanto half serrated in Aus8A. Not ideal for hunting but should be well suited to get him used to using a knife and its nice and light.

Hey great work guys, I heartily endorse you sentiments. Terry may I respectfully suggest you wait for another deserving person - I'll try and explain . . . . The lad's mother has bought him up on her own, and they have been careful to live within their means both when on a benefit and now mother is working again, they deliberately don't have or acquire a lot of things, sorta refreshing in this day and age aye. I think he'll be delighted with and treasure the knife from Tahr.

And in any case the boy is a axeman, he has a tomahawk and has whittled all sort of stuff with it, I commented on a humongous pile of kindling one time and his mum laughed, she'd bought a tandem trailer load of firewood, the the boy had cut over half of it into kindling as a "surprise" for her . . . .

    best to all

    Well done Tahr.
Nice to have something positive happening.
A wee bit pissed off with all the negativity around, lately.

I found the ignore button recently and have applied it to a couple of contributors. I think that I can probably reduce my blood pressure meds now

Knife for a small boy? Good question, whats the dressed weight and hide thickness of small boys?
