Thread: labour weekend Ruahine tops

Hi there

I’ve been looking at making the most of the long weekend and planning a trip up onto the Ruahine tops. As much as I’d like to get a couple deer out of the trip I just love that country up there. I was wondering what other peoples experiences have been at that time of year? I was thinking either up around Tarn Biv or maybe up through Waipawa Saddle and around some of that country towards Waikamaka and Waterfall hut.

The absolute best way to find deer.....irrespective of where you plan on going, irrespective of what you've heard...... irrespective of what feed conditions are....what you've heard, what color undies your wearing, what type of pack you're carrying/rifle you're using/calibre you
re shooting etc etc.....
...get out there and look for them....

The deer are probably more abundant than ever but they are heading to where the grass is most available. The grass is not that ready on the tops but in the lower gullies.
