I’ve added this lot together and got a negative number... sorry mate.
    Believe what like you.

I shoot possums with 223 belmont ammo 60c a pop and shoot them out to 200m no problem in the right location. Know diddly squat about pigs.. quite true. I don't know if the pig I got was the same one, but it was in the same location. I used to shoot goats with my AR15, and possums for that matter, it was the perfect tool for the job IMO. I didn't weigh it, didn't eat it.. Just happened to be late at night in a remote area. Who wants to eat a huge smelly pig anyway?

Thanks for the heads up and I'm sorry if I offended anyone. Goodness.

I'll be heading off guys. So you know I'm just a genuine shooter / hunter who enjoys this sport. Not into politics and pot stirring and just wanted to share an experience with you all and get some feedback.

I was about 20m away when he saw me, stopped and stared at me for a couple of seconds, then charged. I had a 30-30 but all the ammo was in my pocket.Thankfully he got distracted by a dog running in front of him, chased her for a while then gapped it. The dogs stopped him again, I caught up, he saw me, stopped and stared at me for a couple of seconds, then BOOM! Then another point blank BOOM to make sure! I tore about 3 cigarette papers before I managed to get a smoke rolled.
This was the fella who lined me up. It was a wee while ago (it was my 51st birthday yesterday)

Most boars I’ve come across when deer stalking have either run away or made this god awful growling noise when they didn’t know what I was. The only ones I’ve heard squeal have a dog hanging off their nuts. The real big ones are meant to be super cagey and I don’t think you ever see them unless by a fluke. I guess though there are exceptions to the rule.

A mate up Coromandel way was out possum shooting in a Nikau grove one night when he was charged by a boar.
He ended u half way up a tree and emptied a mag from his 10/22 into the pig before it finally went down.
Pig went 220 lb on the hook, witnessed by me. Shooter was a very experienced pig hunter and swore he never seen anything like it before, and had to change his undies after

    That's just not cool.
Kill all the shit you like but for fucks sake do it humanely.
Came around the corner in the ute and there he was right in front of us with its butt to me and tall grass either side. I had a split second to react. I'm sure your pro Jerry Miculek shooting ability would have got him first time in the head.

I finished it off as quickly and humanely as possible.

    Welcome to the forum

Only pig I've ever met in the wild squealed and fucked off at a high rate of knots but I'd believe what Pengy says

I have had one incident where it could have gone either way , and it was earlier this year. Went to one of my favorite places alone and the weather was supposed to be bad but was a nice day so did my usual 3 hour walk in. Got to where I normally have a feed before wandering back out , but the weather was getting worse by the minute so threw some grub down and gapped it back towards the truck at a jog. Been going around half hour and come jogging round a corner in the track . There was a boar, not huge but big enough, standing in the middle of the track who obviously hadn't heard me coming. He jumped around facing me as I came to a skidding halt maybe three metres away. Don't know which of us was more surprised !
So we had a stare off four three or four seconds while we both went through our options and I swear the bugger was going to charge as his head went down. I quickly came to my senses and raised the 45/70 to shoot and he decided jumping off the track was a more sensible option.
Never got a shot off but rattled me a bit as it certainly looked like he was lining me up , but that's the only time that's happened.

A pig doesn’t look too good. Was most probably wondering what this apparition that showed up in front of him n thought ‘bugga this, I’m outta here...’

With boars I have had two close calls where the boar circled me growling and was quite aggressive. One I couldn't see to shoot at about 10ft and the other I was unarmed and up a tree throwing stuff at it. In both cases I was pretty sure there was a sow hogging nearby. Have been charged plenty while pig hunting but they were stirred up by dogs and I deserved it
