A guy had some as pack animals in Glenorchy I think they where a touristy thing as well .
I had a chat with the Bill the Chilean this arvo. He told me that 90% of the "llamas" in NZ are crossbred with alpacas and not proper llamas at all. No idea if that 90% is close to real or just a figure of speech. He tells me that to be sure you are getting a real llama, you have to know what a purebred looks like and get it DNA tested if you're prepared to pay proper money for one. He wouldn't tell me what he's paying for his. I got the feeling its quite a lot.
