Thread: Marlborough Sounds hunting

Hi all
My in Laws have a bach in the Sounds. Momorangi Bay area, and we are going there for a break in March.
I would be quite keen to get out for a hunt when I'm there, last April I was trying to catch a snapper at dawn and could hear a few roars in the distance so I was keen to get out for a look.
Not looking for spot X but could anyone give me a rough idea where a handy spot might be for a morning stalk.

Head for the roars or just head into the bush and go have a look. If theres sign all good, no sign look somewhere else. Check with the Map you in DOC and all good

HAHA Yup!
Need to suss out private from public areas. Was thinking about taking the small boat over the sound to the other side and get into the bush. Any idea what the general sounds bush is like? Is it pretty thick and hard going? or easier then the kaimais?

Take a look at my map: 125.237.13.227/leaflet/leaflet2.html

It combines stuff from the DOC site (public hunting areas), WAMS (all public areas, paper roads etc), plus stuff from LINZ (topomaps, aerial photos, property boundaries etc).

Everything you need to get the full picture, in one place, rather than having to visit several different sites.

Try in the back of Davies Bay, straight across from Momorangi. Follow the water pipes to the header tanks, and check for sign, always a deer or two hanging around there. This time of year they never far from water. Hope this helps

Hey thats very cool!
I started by turning all the species on and couldnt see any of the zones, with the species turned off it works well
Is it safe to assume it is accurate?IE as much as it is with WAMS.

It pulls the data straight from the WAMS, DOC and LINZ sites. Exactly the same info, so any inaccuracies are also present in their data.
